Brief Bio

Dr. Steven Novek has been a pediatrician for almost 30 years, and recently completed a decade as the medical director of the US Army Health Clinic’s Patient Liaison Service at San Bortolo Hospital, here in Vicenza.

Dr. Novek hails from Philadelphia.  He attended medical school at UNC-Chapel Hill, and completed his Pediatric Residency at Duke University.  He received his commission as a medical officer in the US Navy in 1996, and served as a pediatrician, general medical officer, and ER physician for 10 years between active duty and reserves.  He was honorably discharged as a full Commander.

He began to practice in Vicenza in 2003, and has been taking care of US Military and Civilian families here for the past 16 years.  He is fully licensed in Italy and in the US, and he is fluent in Italian.  As medical director of the Patient Liaison Service, over the past 10 years he has managed American patients cared for under all medical specialties.  He recently retired from the US Civilian workforce, and has now opened a private practice for general and family medicine, as well as pediatrics, right here in Vicenza.

Dr. Novek lives in Vicenza with his wife Angela, who hails from Torino, Italy.  Angela teaches Italian language, art history, and culture; she was a member of Duke University’s Romance Language Department for many years, and she has worked with several important US and Italian art museums and universities during her career.  They have three adult sons, two in Italy and one in China, and one granddaughter.
